Sykes’ Chances is our pick for music video of the week, bringing an upbeat mood to a gloomy mid-December.
With its use of black and white, there’s a distinctly cinematic feel to the Hollie Harrington directed video. The visuals feature the Ballet Boyz Dance Company, with performances from dancers Edward Pearce and Marc Galvez.
The video is all about taking chances in an urban environment, with frontwoman Julia saying: “We wanted the video to have the same movement and momentum that the song has along with a darker, mysterious undertone.”
The fun, electro pop track by the London three-piece combines high falsettos and synthesisers, giving listeners a heavy dose of nostalgia with its retro 80’s vibe.
Chances is described as a “tribute to London” and is the follow up to the band’s track Best Thing, which was a Radio 1 BBC Introducing play-listed single.
Sykes will be starting the New Year off in style with a gig at KOKO London on 15 January. For tickets click here.
